Mathieu’s 1994 design for the Rhone-Alpes is one of the most striking examples of the modern ski-poster. Painted in impressionistic smears of red, white and blue, Mathieu’s poster not only conveys the vitality and pride of France’s skiing heritage, but perfectly reflects the sensation and thrill of speed associated with skiing. Mathieu’s poster thus becomes both a document of skiing’s continued significance to France as a region, and a symbol of an increasingly fast-paced modern world.
