Description
Created for the San Francisco Opera Summer Festival Season, this poster shows David Hockney’s design for the Bedlam scene in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress. Hockney’s 1975 designs for The Rake’s Progress became some of the most important and thrilling theatre design of the twentieth century. The libretto was written by W.H. Auden and Chester Kallman. Hockney celebrates their brilliance, placing their words centre stage for this final scene in Bedlam.
