This poster followed the 1938 merger of France’s major railways to form the Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Français, or SNCF. Ile-de-France is an historic and famously wealthy province of France that is home to the capital, Paris. Dominique’s poster depicts the illustrious and imposing symbol of the country home, showcasing the SCNF’s power to transport denizens of the city to the countryside. The sophisticated use of shadow, symmetry and tone make this a beautiful example of the mid-century travel poster.
