Description
Otto Malischke’s original poster marks the thirty seventh Swiss Ski Races, or Schweizerisches
Skirennen, held in Arosa Switzerland in March 1943. In the foreground of Malischke’s design are
the flags of the participating cantons or federal states of the races, while in the background skiers
and sports enthusiasts are seen enjoying the snow. This poster functions as both a classic example of
mid-century Swiss design and a document of powerful historical significance. With war ravaging
Europe and beyond, Switzerland managed to retain neutrality and independence throughout. The
Schweizerisches, and the cantons depicted in this poster, are a testament to Switzerland’s strongwill
and fierce determination.
