In 1988, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) held Hockney’s first comprehensive retrospective in 18 years. Organised by curators Stephanie Barron and Maurice Tuckman and featuring 250 works, the show became the most well attended contemporary exhibitions in LACMA’s history. The landmark show was then toured to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Tate Modern in London. The posters from the exhibitions act as a visual record of Hockney’s diverse output during one of the most creatively prolific periods in his career.
