Description
One of a series of prints commissioned in 1944 by the C.E.M.A. (Council for the Encouragement of Music and the Arts, later to become the Arts Council). CEMA was appointed to help promote and maintain British culture following the Second World War and this print was to be hung “where workers congregate”. James Fitton R.A. was an English painter, lithographer and theatre set designer, and a founder member of the left-wing Artists’ International Association.
